i.                    Thickness shell
ii.                  Thick layer of mesocarp
iii.                Big kernel

Dura was a homozygous dominant with the presence of thick shell while Pisifera was a homozygous recessive with the absence of the shell. A ring of fibre called mesocarp surrounded the kernel. Therefore, Dura was cross pollinated with Pisifera to produce a heterozygous Tenera with an intermediate shell thickness surrounded by a ring of fibre in the mesocarp. Tenera palms became the standard planting material for all commercial purpose in 1958.
